It all began with the “Marche is Good project, promoted by Confindustria Marche and the Marche Region, which in October 2013 organized dozens of events in New York to raise awareness of the excellences from the Marche region, from pasta manufacturers to shoe makers. A few “marchigiani” living in New York were involved in the project as testimonials and became friends through the events. In 2014, they started hosting an annual dinner in New York, with the help of the Consulate of Italy.

Guests native of Marche joined from Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and New Jersey, and when the number of participants exceeded 50, it was decided to create an association and organize also events to promote the culture and traditions of the Marche region. As a result, MIA – Marchigiani in America – was founded in New York in 2017 by a group of professionals who grew up in Marche and later moved to the United States.

The eight founders are: Daniele Busca (from Fano), Marta Baldassarri (from Bologna, with roots in Macerata and Arcevia), Annalisa Guzzini (from Recanati), Beatrice Muzi (from Sant’Elpidio a Mare), Silvia Carlorosi (from Recanati), Lorenzo Cupido (from Loreto), Lorenzo Marcelli-Flori (from Jesi) and Riccardo Lattanzi (from Porto Sant’Elpidio).

MIA’s logo symbolizes the nature of Marche, characterized by enchanting mountain ranges, which transform into smooth hills that descend to the Adriatic coast. The style of the logo is inspired by the paintings of Osvaldo Licini, an abstract artist from le Marche.

MIA is recognized by the Regional Council of Marche, the Consulate General of Italy in New York and is part of the “Marchigiani nel Mondo” community.
