Prof. Larry Wolff (Julius Silver Professor of History and Director of the Center for European & Mediterranean Studies at the New York University) gave a lecture entitled “Gioachino Rossini’s Singing Turks“. He spoke about l2017 summer’s production of Le siege de Corinthe in Pesaro, but also more generally about Rossini’s interest in Turkish figures and scenarios. Prof. Wolff is the author of the book “The Singing Turk: Ottoman Power and Operatic Emotion on the European Stage from the Siege of Vienna to the Age of Napoleon“.
